A BBC Breathing Places Event
As mentioned on our Nature in the Park page, in 2007 the Park was awarded a BBC Breathing Places grant of £10,000, part of which is to go towards the establishment of bird boxes.
To start this initiative, FoSJP arranged a Birds, Boxes, and Biscuits event, with activities including:
- Birds of Prey display by FalconHigh
- Making bird boxes
- Decorating (and eating!) bird-shaped biscuits
- RSPB and Southampton District Bird Group stalls
- Story-telling from Shirley Library
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Despite the pouring rain, crowds flocked to the Park, and many bird boxes were created and biscuits made and eaten. The RSPB was also on hand to give advice on how we can improve our garden environments for birds.
Unfortunately the rain put a bit of a dampener on the Birds of Prey display which had to be restricted; nevertheless we did see the birds pictured here flying. The Kestrel, however, declined to be photographed – much to the crowd’s concern and excitement, it decided to fly away and not return until home time!
Thanks to everyone – helpers and participants – who came along to support this event despite the weather![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”2586″ img_size=”” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]
