Tee in the Park! – Saturday 5th July 2008

All the fun of the Park…and more!

A huge “Thank You” to all of you who supported our Summer event Tee in the Park! Everyone had another great afternoon in the Park, enjoying themselves in many different ways.

The Crazy Golf was a great success, as people practised their putting skills. Many of the children had never tried golf before; it was lovely to provide a new activity for them to try.

The Clash of the Titans was busy all afternoon. Children had lots of fun competing against each other as they tried to knock their opponent off the beam and onto the bouncy castle.

A special Thank You to those volunteers who manned both the Crazy Golf and the Titans – you worked really hard and we appreciate it!

Many children (and adults!) loved the Marionettes – it was amazing to see how the children were so engrossed and enthralled by the puppets. Close by, our local librarian Fi told some wonderful stories to large groups of children who sat beautifully as she told them so well.

[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Face Painting was as popular as ever, and it was excellent to see some of our teenage FoSJP members involved as they decorated the children’s faces.

There was also a stall where budding artists, young and old, were able to turn their hand to T-shirt design.

The FoSJP Kiosk was very busy and people loved the Refreshment Area where the homemade cakes and cream teas were provided by so many of our members. At least 25 people volunteered, and the quality of the cakes was outstanding – thank you! All those cups needed washing up too, and our thanks go to the people behind the scenes who kept the refreshments running so smoothly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]

Special thanks must also go to Dairy Crest who kindly donated all the milk and cream used in the Refreshment Area, completely free of charge!

Many people stopped by at the FoSJP History Stall for a look at the maps, photographs, and other material on display – some dating as far back as 1778 – and to share with us their stories about and memories of the Park. It was particularly pleasing that some went on to show their support for what FoSJP is trying to achieve in the Park by signing up for membership – thank you!

Visit our St.James’ Park – Park History page for more information on the Park’s history, and our Your Stories page to see some of the photographs and stories that have been shared with us.

It’s very encouraging when so many people come forward and offer their help, and this year we had many new faces doing so. It shows us that people really do value what FoSJP is all about, and want to be involved in their local park and community. All in all, the afternoon went very well and we boosted our membership by over 100, bringing us back to over 350 fully paid-up members once again.
